About CareMatters

Nationwide CareMatters is long-term care coverage that is linked to a fixed-premium universal life insurance policy and includes a death benefit. It provides flexibility to you when it comes to covering potential long-term care costs. We designed CareMatters with choice, control and flexibility to meet your unique needs.

This product differs from other long-term care policies in these ways:

  • When it comes to providing health care for you over the long term, CareMatters allows you to pay an informal caregiver, such as a family member, friend or neighbor.1 Other policies may limit or even not allow unlicensed caregivers.
  • With CareMatters, Nationwide pays 100% of the monthly cash benefit.2 Plus, you can pay for your care as you see fit.1 Any money left over can be spent on other expenses or even saved for future use. Meanwhile, with reimbursement policies, only qualifying expenses are reimbursed; nothing extra is paid.
  • CareMatters does not require you to submit monthly bills and receipts, once qualified. Other policies require that you submit bills and receipts monthly; then you have to wait and see what the policy covers.
  • With CareMatters, even if you use every dollar of the money earmarked for long-term health care costs, your beneficiary will still receive a 20% minimum death benefit — guaranteed.2

[1] A U.S.-licensed health care practitioner must state that informal care (which includes care provided by family or friends) is appropriate in the plan of care. Consult with tax professionals for advice because such arrangements may create reporting and withholding requirements for the payor and the payee.
