All 26,000 associates drive our culture, creating an environment where everyone is appreciated and respected. Their distinct perspectives and talents set us apart from other companies. Nationwide intentionally makes diversity and inclusion an integral part of how we do business. We're proud to currently be on Fortune's “100 Best Places to Work” list for the sixth year in a row, Fortune's “50 Best Workplaces for Diversity” list, and to have received Gallup's “Great Workplace Award” every year since 2012.

Associate Resource Groups

Our Associate Resource Groups (ARGs) provide valuable opportunities for our associates to grow their skills, learn across differences, offer allyship, and to drive the business forward. ARGs allow our associates to network, be part of a group that matters to them, and recommend and/or implement creative ideas to enhance business performance.

ARGs also open the doors to long-lasting connections across the company. They extend the company’s number one value – we value people – further into the organization by creating community and belonging.

ARGs provide a strong indicator of the business impact diversity, equity and inclusion have in the workplace. ARG members feel more connected to our organization and, in turn, are less likely to leave Nationwide. For example, ARG members are significantly less likely to leave early in their tenure and we know that associates who are not members of ARG’s have a higher turnover rate.

ARG's in action across the country

Here are just a few ways that our ARGs benefit our company, our associates and the communities where we work and live:

  • Military ARG members serve as recruiters, host hiring events for veterans, and lead the planning for our Memorial Day and Veterans Day ceremonies, which includes facilitation of associate volunteers who attend the Honor Flight each November.
  • The National Latino Alliance ARG sponsored a countrywide week of community projects that included a walk for diabetes, and support for local food pantries and meal programs during Hispanic Heritage Month. The ARG helped pack 22,464 meals to send to children globally.
  • The African American Women and National Network of Black Associates ARGs engage to celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday, where Nationwide annually supports one of the largest MLK breakfast celebrations in the country.
  • The Families ARG supports associates in their many roles both at home with their families and in the workplace whether that is a mom, dad, and/or caregiver. They also provide meaningful consultation regarding policies, practices, benefits, etc.,
  • Our Generations ARG supports education on the importance and uniqueness of our diverse work environment and provides associates with the resources necessary to thrive in a multi-generational environment. They also create a medium between leaders and the various generations and encourage dialogue among different generations; bridging the potential gaps that can occur when there are 5 generations in the workplace.
An inclusive workforce is crucial to our success, which is why we are committed to pursuing and developing distinct and talented associates across the entire company.
